Canoeing Home | Trip Reports

Being in Pittsburgh, we are surrounded by rivers. The Allegheny, Monangahela, and Ohio Rivers are a 10 minute drive away. Due to the dams, however, the near parts are completely flat, with a hardly noticeable current. A couple hours away, there are more interesting rivers and streams, with good rapids, where you actually need to think about avoiding rocks. :)

The club currently owns a single canoe, and no one in Pittsburgh seems to rent them out, so the Allegheny trips have been small and included some club kayaks. In the past, there have been larger trips to far away corners of Pennsylvania, where we could rent additional canoes.

Before it gets cold again this year, I would like to organize a trip to the higher parts of the Alleghany, probably renting some canoes from Allegheny Outfitters. If you're interested, join the canoeing mailing list.
